How to Make Peace With a Period of Heaviness

Welcome back to Mind Time, your space to get out of the world around you and into your mind- more specifically, into the best version of your mind 🧠

Let's be real- life can be SUPER heavy. There are times where it feels virtually impossible to carry the load you've been handed. However, as we've all experienced time and time again, we're stronger than we give ourselves credit for and make it through each & every hardship we're handed.

So- How do we get through those moments without sacrificing our confidence in ourselves and general well-being? Scroll down to find out

Self Check-In

Before we dive into finding peace in moments of chaos, we've gotta get centered. Take a moment with each of these questions to come back to yourself:

  • How am I feeling right now?

  • What's one thing I can do for myself today that'll make my day at least 1% better?

  • What's one thing that I've been holding onto that I can work to release from my headspace?

  • When was the last time I got up and walked around or moved?

  • When did I last eat, and do I need a little pick me up?

Now, let's dive into our mindset tips for moments of heaviness...

Four Strategies to Keeping Your Inner Peace

In this episode of "Mind Time," I share some valuable insights on how to find inner peace during those trying and overwhelming moments in life. Here are a few key strategies I discussed:

"Rest in the Arms of the Dragon"

This is one of my dad's "famous" quotes (and by famous I mean he said it often and it stuck in my head). It doesn't make sense to the literal mind, but the abstract meaning of it has had a profound impact on my ability to find peace amidst chaos.

To me, this quote means staying calm and centered within myself, no matter how chaotic or challenging things get around me. It's about taking a moment to relax, breathe, and collect myself amidst the storm of life's demands. We all know how life can feel like a whirlwind of responsibilities and emotions, but by taking a deep breath and grounding myself in the present, I can maintain that inner peace.

"Let It Roll"

This concept is another one from my father! It's all about not allowing negativity to stick around.

When thinking of this quote, I picture negative thoughts or emotions as a heavy burden on my shoulders. I have a choice: I can carry that burden with me throughout the day, or I can choose to let it roll off my back like water. Instead of dwelling on negativity, I focus on moving forward and tackling the tasks at hand.

"This Too Will End"

It's essential for me to remind myself that challenging periods are temporary. While it might not be an immediate transformation, difficult times do eventually come to an end.

Life is full of ebbs and flows, and even the darkest moments can lead to personal growth and resilience.

I'm in Control

I truly believe that I am the driver of my own life. I have the power to make choices, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. Just as I choose which direction to steer my car, I can decide how to navigate through life's challenges. If I encounter a roadblock or a breakdown, I know it's essential to assess the situation, ask for help if needed, and make decisions that align with my well-being.

Same goes for you! Incorporating these strategies into your life can certainly help you maintain inner peace during challenging times. I always remind myself that self-compassion and self-care are crucial, and I deserve to navigate life's ups and downs with grace and resilience. I hope you work to incorporate these mindset shifts into your mind consistently and work to show yourself the utmost self-compassion!
