Wellness Weekly- Find Your Swaps

Welcome back to Wellness Weekly! It’s been awhile and I’m so happy to be back to my roots connecting with you on some awesome wellness topics.

This week’s wellness tip is for all my friends who have tried to live a healthier life using diet and hustle culture, but have seen no real success. For example, with nutrition either you’ve seen results on the scale and have been obsessive about what you’re putting into your body or you haven’t been seeing the result you want but you’re eating what you want.

As I say with literally everything, balance is key. One extreme over the other is not the way to long-term happiness.

So, one thing that can make your life easier when it comes to enjoying the pleasures life has to offer while doing what’s best for your mind and body is to find some swaps that work for you!

One of the easiest areas I’ve found to make some swaps in is my nutrition. As someone who exercises every day, I want to always do my best to fuel the work I’m doing in my workouts. Therefore, I try to make swaps that incorporate more protein into my diet. Some of these swaps include…

  1. Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt for Sour Cream- This is one of my favorite swaps EVER because they taste the same and Greek yogurt is SO packed with protein 🙌🏻

  2. Yasso Bars for Ice Cream- I’m not a huge fan of the “fake” ice creams, but these frozen Greek yogurt bars are fantastic! They actually have some substance and are creamy, unlike “diet” ice creams (which means they’re actually enjoyable to eat 💁🏻‍♀️)

  3. Built Protein Bars for Granola Bars/Candy Bars- Built bars are your guilt-free candy bar and protein snack goals all in one! Plus, if you’re a fan of granola, their granola bars are the bomb

  4. Chickpea Pasta for Regular Pasta- I’ll admit, chickpea pasta doesn’t taste the same. However, I still think it’s delicious and the protein is an awesome benefit.

If you don’t like any of these things or the things that typically are seen as “healthy,” don’t sweat it! Find what works best for you and your tastes and work those swaps into your every day. Remember- making swaps to better yourself doesn’t work in the long run unless you enjoy your swaps as much as the foods you’re replacing.

Swaps are not just for your physical health- making swaps for your mental health can be life-changing!

Here are a couple of swaps to consider:

  1. Podcasts for Music- Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE music fan. However, listening to podcasts, especially wellness podcasts and/or podcasts on topics you want to learn more about, can help you gain fresh perspectives and glean more knowledge than ever before!

  2. Journaling for Scrolling- Get connected to yourself instead of social media in the morning. Trust me, you’ll be so much more clear-headed throughout the day.

  3. Morning Workout vs. Evening Workout- I know- it’s TOUGH to wake up early enough to work out before starting your day. However, it has been an incredible wake up while allowing me to feel accomplished by doing something major in the morning. 10/10 recommend

Got some ideas brewing? Be sure to pull out your journal and start jotting them down!

However, before you take a trip to Swap City, remember these…

  1. If you’re looking to make these swaps long-term, they’re just like habits, which means you need to stay consistent in a way that works for you until it’s a full-time behavior.

  2. You don’t have to make these swaps all the time! It’s 1000% okay to enjoy the real ice cream or go on a music bender instead of making your swaps. By making the swaps most of the time, you’re living that more-well life you so desire while enjoying the beautiful things this life has to offer

Happy Swapping!
